Day 4 - Curepipe and beyond

We decide to alternately spend one day chilling at the house and one day exploring. Today is an exploring day and off to an early start to drive to the official capital, Curepipe.

We have been told that the market is excellent, but to be frank it’s a bit like a cheaper version of Camden Lock – admittedly with an impressive fresh tuna stall. There is, however, an amazing cafĂ© called the Cup and Cake which is hard to leave!

We decide to head to the tea factory – Bois Cherie. However, we arrive too late for the tour and agree to return on our next explorer morning (which we never do…).

We also visit an old colonial manor house – impressive in its way.

Then we drive to Rochester Falls – which is great fun to get to. The road is initially very rocky and then turns into a sugar cane field (which has been harvested). The falls are beautiful and the locals are enjoying themselves swimming around in the pool at the bottom and impressing people by jumping and diving from the top and from halfway down. Scary to watch, but probably even scarier to do!
